Walmart Enters Residential Battery Market Through Base Power Deal

Walmart is moving into the home energy sector through a strategic investment in Base Power, a Texas-based firm specializing in residential battery systems. The partnership aims to lower utility costs for consumers while providing a reliable backup solution for those facing the volatility of the Texas electrical grid.

Walmart Enters Residential Battery Market Through Base Power Deal

Base Power handles the installation, ownership, and maintenance of its home battery units, charging customers an upfront fee for the service. These systems function by optimizing power consumption when the grid is active and providing immediate backup during outages. Under the new agreement, Walmart and Sam’s Club members in Texas gain exclusive access to these energy offerings starting this November, including a 20% discount on standard installation costs.

Texas serves as the primary testing ground for this rollout, given that Base Power already maintains a footprint of 35,000 members in the state. While the initial phase is limited to Texas, Walmart plans to scale the program to additional regions as the partnership matures. This move reflects a broader retail push to integrate essential home infrastructure services directly into the shopping experience for club members.
