Violinist Annabelle Traves Wins Snoop Dogg Ice Cream Taster Job

More than 350,000 people from over 130 countries applied for a $10,000-a-month ice cream tasting job with Snoop Dogg’s Dr. Bombay brand. Australian violinist Annabelle Traves won it by bringing music to her application, including a performance of “Young, Wild & Free.”

Traves, who is based in Dubai and has performed solo at Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House, will work on a three-month contract. Her role includes helping Dr. Bombay enter new markets, developing flavors and creating an ice cream tied to Deel, the HR and payroll platform that ran the search.

In an interview with Entrepreneur, Traves said she did not try to match applicants with dairy-industry experience. Instead, she played to her strengths: her application video featured a melody associated with Snoop Dogg on violin. After reaching the final 15, she submitted her own cover of “Young, Wild & Free.” She believes the musical connection helped attract the rapper’s attention.

The opportunity came after Traves finished a world tour with André Rieu. She told Entrepreneur she welcomed a break from schedules arranged a year in advance, and was drawn both to ice cream and to the chance to connect with Snoop Dogg as a fellow musician.

Traves said novelty matters most when she tastes a new flavor. Dr. Maya, who develops flavors for Dr. Bombay, showed her how an ice cream’s taste can change over several seconds. Traves also cited the brand’s nostalgic flavors, including Sherbet and Peanut Butter Jelly Time, and said she would like to explore ideas inspired by popular candies and afternoon snacks from the 1990s.
