Maple Leaf Foods Trims Profit Outlook Amid Strained Consumer Budgets

The meat and protein producer faced a difficult quarter as it navigated the fallout from divested pork operations and shifting market dynamics. While sales climbed 2.4% to 1.035 billion Canadian dollars—largely buoyed by a 4.3% jump in poultry revenue and modest gains in prepared foods—bottom-line results trailed analyst expectations. Adjusted earnings landed at 0.36 Canadian dollars per share, missing the projected 0.37 mark.

Chief Executive Curtis Frank pointed to a global environment of renewed inflation that has squeezed margins and constrained consumer spending throughout the latter half of the year. Executives now anticipate hitting the low end of their 520 million to 540 million Canadian dollar target range, signaling a cautious approach to the coming months.
