Teva Halts Phase 2 Trial of Multiple System Atrophy Drug

An independent data monitoring committee has recommended that Teva Pharmaceutical Industries abandon its current Phase 2 study for emrusolmin, a treatment for multiple system atrophy. The decision arrives after an interim analysis revealed that the drug therapy holds a low probability of achieving its primary efficacy endpoint in patients.

The clinical trial, conducted in partnership with Modag GmbH, will be discontinued immediately. Despite the setback, Teva maintains that this specific outcome does not signal a total termination of the broader emrusolmin development program. The company intends to conduct a comprehensive review of the gathered trial data to inform future research paths.

Eric Hughes, Teva’s executive vice president of global R&D and chief medical officer, expressed disappointment regarding the interim results. He stated that the firm remains committed to extracting as much insight as possible from the trial findings to better understand the treatment's performance and potential application in neurodegenerative care.
