District Judge Trina Thompson issued a temporary restraining order on Friday, declaring that the public has a paramount interest in allowing election workers to perform their duties without intimidation. The injunction follows a lawsuit filed by the Service Employees International Union, AFSCME, and other advocacy groups, who successfully argued that the DOJ’s warnings were designed to undermine confidence in the electoral process.
This judicial intervention arrives just days before the midterm elections, effectively halting the administration’s efforts to interfere with state-level voting procedures. The DOJ had previously attempted to force states to isolate thousands of ballots, relying on data sets that critics have repeatedly dismissed as inaccurate. In one instance, federal claims of illegal voting in Nevada were proven entirely false, as all 185 individuals targeted were confirmed citizens.
