Kyoei Steel Profits Slide Amid Rising Costs

Kyoei Steel saw its net profit drop to 3.26 billion yen for the half-year ending September 30, a sharp decline from the 5.43 billion yen reported during the same period last year. Despite a notable increase in top-line revenue, the Japanese steelmaker struggled to maintain its margins against mounting operational pressures.

Kyoei Steel Profits Slide Amid Rising Costs

The company’s financial results, prepared under Japanese accounting standards, reveal a disconnect between growth and profitability. While revenue climbed to 177.70 billion yen from 154.68 billion yen in the previous year, the gains were overshadowed by declining operational efficiency. Operating profit fell to 6.11 billion yen, down significantly from 9.21 billion yen in 2025.

Pretax profit followed a similar downward trajectory, settling at 5.93 billion yen compared to 8.48 billion yen a year earlier. Consequently, earnings per share contracted to 75.05 yen, nearly half of the 125.01 yen recorded in the prior half-year cycle.
