Macklemore Launches 'Free Palestine' Tour Following NFL Owner Dispute

After billionaire NFL owner Robert Kraft allegedly pressured organizers to remove him from Ed Sheeran’s US stadium tour, rapper Macklemore launched his own benefit series in Dublin on Monday. More than 13,000 fans filled the 3Arena, signaling a defiant response to the artist's recent silencing over his vocal advocacy.

The Seattle-born artist, born Benjamin Hammond Haggerty, used the sold-out stage to address the controversy that led to his removal from the Loop Tour. His exclusion followed a September performance at MetLife Stadium, where he condemned the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the occupation of the West Bank. Macklemore told the Dublin crowd that his call for liberation had become more contentious than the violence itself, emphasizing that his words were rooted in a shared recognition of humanity rather than hatred.

Efforts to stifle the rapper appear to have backfired. Beyond the success of his own benefit dates—which include upcoming stops in London and Paris—other artists slated for Sheeran’s tour withdrew in solidarity. The Dublin show featured a diverse lineup of performers, including Hozier, Kneecap, and Palestinian singer Lina Makoul, alongside video messages from actors Mark Ruffalo and Cynthia Nixon.

Macklemore has committed $1 million to humanitarian aid organizations, a donation recently matched by children’s educator Ms. Rachel. Proceeds from the current tour will provide medical care, education, and community services to Palestinians. Critics have praised the move, with The Guardian labeling the opening concert a five-star triumph for the rapper’s convictions.
