Abdul El-Sayed, a Democratic US Senate candidate, visited the Dafter Township site this month to highlight the conflict as a flashpoint for national data center regulation. The facility, owned by Florida-based Odessa Partners LLC and operated by Alpha Watt, began operations in March 2025. Noise levels initially spiked to 75 decibels, prompting a nuisance lawsuit from the school. While cooling fans were later partially shielded, school superintendent Susie Schlehuber reports that the constant high-pitched din persists, leaving special needs students in particular distress.
A Pattern of Obscurity
Transparency remains a central grievance. When school officials and residents sought accountability, site representatives and workers refused to identify the owners. Business filings later linked the operation to Michael Carbonara, a Florida businessman and Republican congressional candidate. Carbonara has defended the project as an exercise in innovation, dismissing local opposition as politically motivated.
