Air Canada and United Expand Transborder Flight Network

Over 4.3 million passengers have traveled between the United States and Canada via a joint venture that is now entering its next phase of growth. Air Canada and United Airlines have filed for regulatory approval to launch new routes and boost capacity across the border starting next summer.

Air Canada and United Expand Transborder Flight Network

The expansion centers on deepening the Transborder Joint Business Agreement, a partnership formalized in 2022. Air Canada plans to introduce direct flights connecting Toronto to Louisville, Montreal to Indianapolis, and Edmonton to Newark, while simultaneously increasing the frequency of its existing service between Edmonton and San Francisco.

United Airlines is targeting secondary Canadian hubs, adding new connections from Denver to Ottawa and Quebec City. The carrier will also launch seasonal flights between Newark and St. John’s, alongside capacity increases on routes linking Washington, D.C. with Quebec City and Denver with Winnipeg. Patrick Quayle, United’s senior vice president of Global Network Planning and Alliances, noted that the expansion reflects a continued strategy to streamline cross-border travel. The airlines are currently awaiting final authorization from Transport Canada to proceed with the planned schedule adjustments.
