Italian Winery Hit by Record $5.8 Million Heist

Seven masked intruders infiltrated the Marchesi Antinori storage facility near Cortona, systematically looting 30,000 bottles of high-end vintage wine. By disabling security systems and utilizing the company’s own forklifts, the thieves executed what CEO Renzo Cotarella identifies as the largest wine theft in the history of Italy.

The heist targeted specific, high-value labels including Solaia, Tignanello, and Guado al Tasso, all from the 2023 vintage. With individual bottle prices ranging from $167 to $558, the total haul reached an estimated $5.8 million. The surgical precision of the selection suggests the perpetrators possessed intimate knowledge of the facility’s inventory and layout.

Investigators are currently tracing the two large trucks used to transport the stolen goods. Cotarella remains skeptical that such a massive quantity of premium product can be offloaded on the black market without detection. Local authorities are reviewing the breach, focusing on how the group bypassed advanced alarm and camera systems to operate undetected for the duration of the raid.
