High Earners Find Their Mirror in the Influencer Economy

Americans earning over $100,000 annually are proving to be the most receptive audience for digital creators. A recent survey reveals that these high earners are not only more likely to trust influencer product recommendations than their lower-income counterparts but are also increasingly viewing the profession as an aspirational career path.

High Earners Find Their Mirror in the Influencer Economy

The September study of 2,000 U.S. adults, conducted by Morning Consult for Business Insider, found that 61% of high earners trust influencer endorsements. This demographic reports a growing confidence in digital creators, often citing the relatability of the lifestyle portrayed on screen. For individuals with significant disposable income, the curated experiences of influencers often feel like familiar, attainable territory rather than distant fantasies.

Industry experts suggest that this trust gap is rooted in shared life experiences. Amanda Acevedo, director of talent at G&B Digital Management, notes that viewers gravitate toward creators who mirror their own reality. For those with tighter budgets, the lavish lifestyle of top creators can feel alienating; for the affluent, it functions as a relatable social circle. Natalie Barbu, founder of the platform Rella, echoes this sentiment, explaining that higher spending power removes the sense of disconnect that typically stifles conversion rates among lower-income audiences.

While high earners remain the primary consumers, the creator economy itself is becoming increasingly stratified. Data from CreatorIQ indicates that the top 10% of creators captured 62% of ad payments in 2025, a significant jump from 53% just two years prior. As the top tier of influencers pulls further ahead, the median earnings for the average creator have actually declined, creating a widening wealth gap within the industry.
