From Middle School Cover Star to CEO: The Evolution of Alina Morse

Eight years ago, 13-year-old Alina Morse became the youngest founder to grace the cover of Entrepreneur Magazine. Today, the Michigan native is a senior at Michigan State University, balancing her academic life with the continued growth of her sugar-free candy empire, Zolli Candy, and its charitable arm, the Million Smiles Initiative.

From Middle School Cover Star to CEO: The Evolution of Alina Morse

Morse describes her transition from a small-town student to a national face of entrepreneurship as a surreal experience. While she initially worried about how her braces would look in a magazine photo, that early media exposure became a foundational tool for the business. She frequently used the feature as a badge of credibility when approaching major retailers like Whole Foods and Walmart, proving that a young startup could compete on a global stage.

Despite the demands of running a company, Morse chose to pursue a degree at Michigan State, viewing her education as a vital complement to her professional life rather than a distraction. She dismisses the concept of work-life balance as a myth, arguing that the entrepreneurial mindset is an constant, "always-on" state. As she approaches graduation, her ambitions remain fixed on a singular, audacious target: establishing Zolli as the world’s leading zero-sugar candy brand while expanding the Million Smiles Initiative to ensure children across the United States have access to better oral health.

Looking back at her younger self, Morse offers a simple piece of advice: smile with your teeth and shed the fear of judgment. She encourages aspiring founders to adopt a childlike lack of inhibition, arguing that the fear of failure is a learned adult behavior that prevents innovation. For Morse, the future is not about finding balance, but about discovering new avenues to channel the same curiosity that built her brand.
