The crisis has dismantled the basic foundations of childhood for hundreds of thousands. Beyond immediate starvation, nearly one-third of children are currently deprived of essential healthcare, while four out of five families struggle to secure basic necessities. The structural damage to the country is equally severe, with 436 schools impacted and 37 completely destroyed, threatening the education of 100,000 students.
Since March, the conflict has resulted in approximately 17,000 casualties. Marcoluigi Corsi, UNICEF’s representative in Lebanon, stated that the youth are being forced to carry a burden no child should endure. This suffering is exacerbated by the displacement of over 1.1 million people, with one-third of those forced from their homes being children. Amnesty International has characterized the systematic prevention of return to these areas as a potential war crime, noting that 6% of Lebanese territory is effectively under a permanent exclusion order.
