Samsung has pledged $1 billion to Helix Digital Infrastructure, a platform established by KKR and Nvidia to address the surging demand for AI-ready data centers. This commitment pushes the company's total secured capital past $11 billion, fueling a massive push to solve bottlenecks in power, cooling, and hardware.

Samsung Invests $1 Billion Into KKR-Backed AI Infrastructure Firm

Helix, founded in June with backing from Nvidia, the Kuwait Investment Authority, and power provider Vistra, aims to bridge the gap between hyperscalers and physical infrastructure. Chief executive Adam Selipsky described the Samsung partnership as a vital vote of confidence in the firm’s ability to deliver complex, large-scale facilities at speed. As tech giants like Microsoft, Amazon, and Alphabet continue to funnel hundreds of billions into AI buildouts, the industry faces severe shortages in land, energy, and fiber-optic capacity.

Economist Stijn van Nieuwerburgh projects that global investment in this sector will reach $10.3 trillion by 2032. For its part, Helix intends to integrate Samsung’s expertise in advanced construction, energy storage, and cooling systems to scale its operations. This move aligns with broader South Korean efforts to secure a dominant position in the global AI supply chain, complementing the government’s $2 trillion initiative to build a massive semiconductor hub.

KKR continues to deepen its footprint in the Asia-Pacific region, having invested $75 billion globally in digital and power infrastructure. Recent regional activity includes an $820 million stake in Samsung SDS and a $2.2 billion commitment to SK Telecom’s data-center arm. According to KKR’s Waldemar Szlezak, the firm is prioritizing long-dated capital to capture the rising demand from hyperscalers across Japan and South Korea.
