Hornbeck Offshore Secures Multi-Year North Sea Decommissioning Deal

A major North Sea operator has tapped Hornbeck Offshore’s subsidiary, Helix Well Ops, for a multi-year decommissioning project. The contract, which kicks off in the second quarter of next year, marks a significant expansion of the company’s rigless service footprint in the region despite the identity of the client remaining undisclosed.

The agreement carries an initial two-year term, with additional extension options built into the deal. This partnership focuses on providing integrated decommissioning solutions, a specialized niche that Hornbeck aims to dominate by utilizing its existing asset base.

Chief Executive Todd Hornbeck noted that the award reinforces the company's track record in the North Sea. By consolidating services under a single contract, the firm intends to streamline what is typically a complex, multi-stage process for offshore energy operators. While the financial specifics of the agreement were not released, the deal signals continued demand for specialized maintenance and removal services as aging infrastructure in the North Sea reaches the end of its operational life.
