Finnair Reports August Traffic Gains Despite Capacity Cuts

Growth in European traffic served as the primary engine for the airline’s performance, offsetting declines observed in domestic and North Atlantic sectors. The carrier continues to navigate a complex operational landscape, with flights to the Middle East remaining suspended since February 28 due to regional instability.

Beyond passenger counts, the airline saw a 2% year-on-year increase in total cargo weight, bolstered by significant demand within European markets. These gains occurred against a backdrop of reduced overall capacity, which fell by 4.8% compared to the previous year, while total traffic measured by revenue passenger kilometers decreased by 3.1%.
