The production will be split between Alstom’s existing facilities in suburban Montreal and northern Ontario. Michael Keroulle, head of the company's operations in the Americas, characterized the agreement as the contract of the decade, noting that the manufacturing project is expected to bolster regional economic activity and generate hundreds of jobs across the domestic supply chain.
Via Rail is set to receive the first of these new carriages in 2031, with the full rollout of the modern fleet projected for completion by the mid-2030s.
